THE PAST

Over 25 years ago, Mr. Edward Nichols had an idea to assemble a company that provided affordable remote control technology to small and mid-size construction, mining and other industrial companies. Working as an key engineer for a major supplier of sophisticated control systems, Mr. Nichols - an inventor of several highly successful wireless designs - noticed an ever increasing void between the needs of large-scale industry and medium sized operations. Taking the initiative, his development process soon evolved into a corporation that designs, manufactures, and services high-technology control systems based primarily on radio frequency (RF) controls. RFHero (A Nichols Electronics Company) was born.

Realizing that most companies in the remote control industrial equipment industry offer complete solutions to operate heavy equipment such as locomotives, cranes, and conveyors, Nichols Electronics decided to pursue a different segment of the industry. Targeting small- and mid-sized companies, Nichols Electronics was able to demonstrate to them that they could ultimately benefit from the increased efficiency and safety that remote control technology provides.

During the latter part of the 20th century a revolution occurred in the radio communications industry. This revolution brought about great new innovations such as cellular technology, wireless LANs, satellite television, as well as a host of other new and exciting devices that could enhance the overall quality of life for people all over the world. Sensing an opportunity to adapt remote controls to utilize these new technologies, Nichols Electronics was able to create and market several new remote controls that could support a number of conventional applications yet still remain simple enough to integrate into new systems.

THE PRESENT

The current product line covers a wide range of potential applications. For example, the Falcon Pro Radio Remote Control is used by workers in the insulation industry. This remote simplifies the process of controlling several switches on the insulation machine while giving the operator almost unlimited movement in a 500+ foot range.

The Eagle Series - Apache System Truck Load Manager is another solid example, developed primarily to assist the stone and aggregate industry to manage overhead bins. By adapting smart controls and allowing the quarry workers the ability to calibrate the units quickly, this system has increased load volume and still keeps the overall weight of the load within desired limits.

Another very promising remote control is the Eagle 2100 TLC, which is used to control mobile traffic lights. United Rentals has a superior line of safety equipment used to provide traffic control over the road near construction sites or other areas where standard traffic light are only needed temporarily. The Eagle 2100 TLC easily handles the timing, control, and power requirements necessary to properly and safely allow a flagman to monitor a complete traffic scene rather than simply watching one side of the road.

THE FUTURE

We are constantly looking ahead and striving to improve our existing products in addition to introducing new ones. The evolving field of radio remote controls constantly supplies new markets to be tapped and new products to be developed. We remain commited to serving small- and mid-sized companies through superior and innovative products.
